Harbour Department,
Hong Kong, 16th July 1892.
With reference to your letter 555 of 30th March last in which you inform me that although discharging the duties of Assistant Harbour Master and Acting Police Magistrate it is to be distinctly understood that I will on half pay becoming available for the latter office only be allowed to draw the half salary of each office, and with reference to my reply #199 dated 31st March last, as the time is close at hand when half pay is available I have the honour to ask that if in His Excellency's opinion I have performed the duties satisfactorily he may be pleased to consider whether as I am discharging the duties of two distinct offices he cannot be pleased to allow me to come under the terms of Colonial Office Regulations #108.
I have, &c:
(Signed) A. C. H. Hastings.
Hon. J. T. M. O'Brien
Colonial Secretary.
Assistant Harbor Master, &c.
